PM Modi To Hold Review Meeting Over COVID-19 And Omicron Situation On December 23

LoMr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, is going to hold a review meeting over the Wuhan virus and its new variant, the Omicron situation in India. The meeting is scheduled to be held today, the 23rd of December.

With the rising number of Omicron cases, the nation is alarming, raising concerns amongst Indian states and Union Territories (UTs.) As of now, India has over 200 cases of Omicron, of which Delhi and Maharashtra top the list with more than 50% cases together.

States like Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and others imposed strict surveillance and restrictions, to prevent the spread.

According to a government official, who wished to be anonymous, during the meeting, Mr. Narendra Modi would take stock of the pandemic situation across the country. Some of the major discussions in today’s meeting include speeding up administering the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, vaccine roll out for children, booster shots amid Omicron scare, discussion over impact of current vaccines on this new variant and need of new guidelines amid Omicron rise. 

The meeting would be attended by Union Ministers, NITI Aayog officials and the Task Force of COVID-19.

The last review meeting over the Omicron variant and COVID-19 situation was held in November. During the last meeting, PM Narendra Modi discussed travel restrictions and alerted Indian states and UTs to impose strict surveillance and ensure prevention of Omicron spread.
