P.K. Mishra, the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the afternoon of the 7th of May, conducted a meeting regarding the Visakhapatnam Gas leak incident.
The meeting was attended by Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF,) National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA,) and Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS.)
During the meeting, P.K. Mishra decided to sent a medical team to Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam to tackle the medical crises due to the Visakhapatnam gas leak incident.
On the 7th of May, around 3:30 A.M., a chemical gas leaked from LG Polymers India plant at R.R. Venkatapuram village on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam.
Mr. Mishra also directed to send a team of experts and measures for relief and rescue work in the area for the affected people. As many as 240 people are hospitalised, 70 are unconscious and 20 are on ventilators.
The high-level meeting by Mishra came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting with the NDMA officials in the wake of the gas leak incident in Visakhapatnam on Thursday morning.
So far, the gas leak tragedy claimed eleven people including a minor and the rescue operations are still underway.
