In Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district, an auction for Pulasa fish was conducted in the Yanam market.
On the 23rd of August, Tuesday, the Pulasa fish auction fetched a record price of Rs. 19,000. Notably, a woman named Parvathi got a fresh 2 kg Pulasa fish, which is used as popular seafood, in the fish auction. A man from Bhairavapalem won the auction with the highest bid of Rs.19,000. Furthermore, this year, Rs. 19,000 was the highest price for the season.
According to fishermen, due to sandbanks near Bhairavapalem Moga in me. Polavaram Mandal, there are fewer fishes coming from the sea into the Gautami canal. Considering the less number of available fish, there is a huge demand for fish in the market. Moreover, the auction for specific Pulasa fish was conducted due to its very rare water resistance features with protein.
These Pulasa fish are seen in the market during the onset of monsoon and people are competing to buy the fish, which are mostly found in Antarvedi, Bhairavapalem and Narasapuram, under the East Godavari and West Godavari districts.
Locals said that Pulasa fish is mostly available at two points where Godavari waters meet in the sea and are rare to find.
