In a major setback to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) two senior leaders of the party switched their loyalties and joined the opposition Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)
On the 18th of January, Wednesday, Ms. Vavilala Sarla, the TDP State Secretary and former Chairman of the Finance Corporation of Handloom Weavers, and Ms. Vavilala’s husband Mr. Vavilala Venkata Ramesh joined the YSRCP.
Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the President of the YSRCP, welcomed the two leaders at the YSRCP Camp Office in Tadepalli, Andhra Pradesh. Although the reason behind the switch is not clear, it is speculated that Ms. Vavilala Sarla was unhappy with the TDP and its ideals, therefore joined the YSRCP.
It is to be noted, ahead of the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, many TDP leaders are planning to move to the YSRCP.
