The Telugu State of Telangana attracted another major investment, announced by Bharti Airtel worth Rs. 2,000 crores.

On the 18th of January, Wednesday, the Bharti Airtel Group signed an agreement with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government of Telangana.  The deal with an investment of Rs. 2,000 crores was signed in the presence of Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, in Davos, Switzerland.  It is to be noted, KTR is in Davos to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2023.

As per the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) the Bharti Airtel Group would establish a facility, which would be a Hyperscale Data Centre with a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW) of IT load for the first phase.  It would incorporate the latest technologies in cooling and security and is estimated to be deployed in the next five to seven years, confirmed sources.

After signing the agreement, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao said, “I am very happy to see Airtel-Nxtra Data Centres invest in Telangana.  Hyderabad is now the hub for Hyperscale Data Centres in India and Airtel’s investment adds to the pace we look to keep up.  I hope to continue this relationship and hope the State can work together with Airtel-Nxtra to work on creating digital infrastructure to keep up with the ever-growing industry in the State.”

In addition, Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, the Chairman and Founder of the Bharti Airtel Group said, “This is one of our biggest greenfield Data Centre projects in India and we are happy to be working with Telangana.  Since the initiation of our discussions on the Data Centre project in the May 2022 edition of the WEF Annual Meeting, the Government has worked at a very quick pace to ensure the project can get into construction in the matter of a few months.  We will work closely with Telangana to increase our footprint in the state in other portfolios of our business as well.”

Meanwhile, at the WEF, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao is scheduled to meet many global leaders and businessmen, attracting investment for the Telugu State of Telangana.
