Yanamala Rama Krishnudu, a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) spoke about a recent resolution passed in the Assembly session of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.)

On the 27th of January, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government passed a resolution to abolish the Legislative Council of A.P.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., passed the resolution after Shariff Mohammed Ahmed, the Chairman of the A.P., Legislative Council, decided to send the bills concerning the decentralisation of the State’s development to a select committee.

However, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Yanamala Rama Krishnudu said the YSRCP Government does not have the power to abolish the Legislative Council as it depends on the Centre.

Explaining in detail, Rama Krishnudu said the process to abolish the Legislative Council is not an easy task but a lengthy one.

He said, “The resolution passed by the State Assembly has to go to the Union Cabinet and then the Law Ministry will prepare a draft Bill, which has to be passed by (the) Parliament.”

He further added, “Till President issues a notification, the Legislative Council will be live (sic.)”

Meanwhile, the YSRCP Government is expected to forward the resolution to abolish the Legislative Council to the Centre for approval, due to which the capital development work was halted for a while.

Stay tuned for further updates.
