On the 6th of February, a senior Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) submitted his resignation.
Ganta Srinivasa Rao, the TDP MLA submitted his resignation from the MLA post to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker. He urged the State Assembly Speaker to accept his resignation.
According to the sources, the resignation was submitted in support of the ongoing agitation against the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP.)
Mr. Srinivas, the MLA of Visakhapatnam North, took to Twitter and urged the public representatives not to step back and also asked them to submit their resignation letters if need be to save the steel plant.
Mr. Ganta Srinivas Rao said, “The responsibility to stall the privatisation of the steel plant lies with the Chief Minister. Keeping aside political differences, intellectuals, labour unions and political parties should come together and fight against the privatisation. If required, they should be ready to submit resignations and be ready for any kind of sacrifice. If a protest happens on such a large scale, then I am sure that we can stall the privatisation process.”
Expressing dissatisfaction over the decision of the Central Government to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said, “It is disappointing to see that the Union government is privatising the steel plant citing negligible losses.”
Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao also highlighted the need to form a non political joint action committee to protect the VSP from getting privatised.
In addition, Srinivasa Rao also sought the intervention of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the matter.
