Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, is scheduled to visit Guvvala Gutta Thanda in Chandampet Mandal on Monday, the 22nd of May.

According to sources, during the visit, Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan would hold interactions with the people and find out about their issues, especially health related.  The visit to Chandampet Mandal came after the recent news of kidney diseases rising in the region.  In the past few days, in Guvvala Gutta Thanda region of Nalgonda district, Telangana, many incidents of kidney diseases were reported,

Concerned about the same, the Telangana Governor would visit, call on the ailing people and assure them of all assistance from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led Telangana Government.

Being a doctor, Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan would also try to find why Thanda became a place for high prevalence of kidney diseases in the Telugu State.

The tribals of Guvvalagutta Thanda, Suddabavi Thanda and Pogilla Thanda in the border villages of Nalgonda district used to face severe drinking water crises in the past. Under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme, a 100-km pipeline has been laid from Marriguda and Krishna drinking water is being provided to those areas at present.

Meanwhile, speaking of the possible reason behind the rising number of kidney diseases in the region of Guvvala Gutta Thanda is the drinking water crisis.  The region, about 95 kilometers from the district headquarters of Nalgonda, is located on the bank of River Krishna.  However, with the groundwater in the region said to have a high level of calcium carbonate due to the limestone reserves in the area, the villagers were said to be facing a high incidence of renal diseases.    As per sources, due to the lack of drinking water, out of a population of 1,600 in the Thanda, at least 40 have died due to renal diseases in the last eight years.  Although the pipelines have been laid under the Mission Bhagirathi, the people in the region are still waiting for drinking water and the sudden issue of rising kidney disease is a major concern, happening due to the drinking water issue.
