Ugadi marks the New Year for the people of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. The word Ugadi is derived from Sanskrit, wherein ‘yuga’ means age and ‘adi’ means beginning.
In South India, people celebrate Ugadi with great enthusiasm and happiness. People start preparing for the festival days in advance, make sweets and arrange gatherings.
