Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 7th of May, announced an ex gratia of Rs. 1 crore for the kin’s of who died in the Visakhapatnam gas tragedy.
Mr. Reddy who visited the incident spot, the Gopalapatnam area of RR Venkatapuram village Visakhapatnam also met the victims of the gas tragedy. He even declared compensation for those admitted in hospitals after inhaling the toxic gas leaked from LG Polymers plant.
Addressing the media, Jagan Mohan Reddy said, those on ventilators will be paid Rs 10 lakh each while others undergoing treatment in hospitals for two to three days would be given Rs. 1 lakh.
Whereas, people with minor injuries would be given an amount of Rs. 25,000 each and the residents of the affected villages would get Rs 10,000 each.
According to sources, as many as 340 people were affected by the gas leak and were shifted to hospitals.
In addition, Mr. Reddy would also constitute a committee for the investigation regarding the incident and action would be taken based on its report.
Deeming the incident as an unfortunate event due to such a reputed company like LG, he also said that if necessary, the plant will be shifted to some other location.
The chief minister appreciated the district administration for its quick response to launch rescue and relief operations.
As many as 12,000 people in five villages were affected by the gas leak and the rescue operation is still underway.
