The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government, on the 8th of May, released an amount of Rs. 30 crores for the compensation of the Visakhapatnam Gas leak victims.

The amount released a day after Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) announced the ex gratia for the deceased and the injured people.

On the 7th of May, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, announced an ex gratia  of Rs. 1 crore to the kin’s who died in the Visakhapatnam gas tragedy.  In addition,  those on ventilators will be paid Rs. 10 lakh each while others undergoing treatment in hospitals for two to three days would be given Rs. 1 lakh. 

Whereas, people with minor injuries would be given an amount of  Rs. 25,000 each and the  residents of the affected villages would get Rs 10,000 each.

The Visakhapatnam Gas leak incident which happened during the early hours of the 7th of May, claimed 12 lives and left thousand injured.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against LG Polymers, which is responsible  for the emission of the chemical gas.  The Andhra Pradesh Police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC,) including Culpable Homicide.

A high level committee was also formed to probe the matter and submit a detailed report to the National Green Tribunal, which is reviewing a suo moto cognizant case against LG Polymers.

The NGT also directed LG Polymers to pay an initial amount of Rs. 50 crores to Visakhapatnam authorities for the damage of life, area and environment.
