The bomber set off the blast at Mall Road, just as the parties were on the verge of a deal. The blast killed 13 people, injuring 83 others. Mushtaq Sukhera, inspector general of police in Punjab province, said five police officers were among the dead, “It was a suicide attack. The bomber exploded himself when successful negotiations were underway between police officials and the protesters,” Sukhera told. The claim for the act was taken by Jamaat-ur-Ahrar, a faction of Pakistani Taliban, as they released a statement saying that this is just a start of a campaign against the government. “You are on our target across the country,” it added in a statement. Jamaat-ur-Ahrar was also the organization behind the August blast on Easter Day bombing in Lahore last year that killed more than 70 people in a public park.

This attack may jeopardise the already suffering safety of the nation due to which most of the popular sport matches of cricket have been held abroad by the nation, especially the domestic Twenty 20 tournament to be held in Pakistan in March.
