The Indian National Congress (INC) conducts its Congress Working Committee (CWC,) on the 25th of May.

Top leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, the President of the INC, Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC,) Dr. Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India and senior leaders of the CWC attend the meeting.

The CWC meeting started early morning, on the 25th of May, at the Delhi Headquarter of the INC.

During the CWC meeting, the leaders will analyse the defeat of the Party during the Lok Sabha elections and formulate the action plan for the Party.

The INC lost the Lok Sabha elections against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.) According to the counting of the votes, the INC secured only 52 seats out of 542 Lok Sabha seats, whereas the BJP alone managed to mark the majority and bagged 300 Parliamentary seats.

According to sources, it is also expected, after the CWC meeting, Rahul Gandhi may resign from the position of the President, as he believes the reason behind the Party’s loss is his leadership.

On the 23rd of May, after the results of the Lok Sabha elections, when the press asked Rahul Gandhi, about his offer of resignation to the INC, he said, “We will have a meeting of the working committee and then it would be decided there… That you can leave between me and the working committee.”

A senior leader of the INC commented on the resignation offer and said, if Mr. Rahul will resign, many senior leaders of the Party will follow him.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Raj Babbar and Niranjan Patnaik, the President of the INC in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha respectively offered their resignation to the Party.

Raj Babbar took to Twitter and blamed himself for the poor performance in the State, whereas Niranjana Patniak offered his resignation.

However, the resignations of any of the leaders are not yet announced officially.

The decision will be taken after the Congress Working Committee meeting, which is underway.

Stay tuned for further updates.
