Theresa May, the President of the United Kingdom (U.K.) and leader of the Conservative Party in the U.K., will resign from her post, on the 7th of June 2019.
On the 24th of May, during a Press meet, Theresa May announced her resignation and said, “Our politics may be under strain but there is so much that is good about this country, so much to be proud of. I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honour of my life to hold.”
In her resignation letter, Theresa wrote, “So I am today announcing that I will resign as leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party on Friday 7 June so that a successor can be chosen. I have agreed with the Party Chairman and with the Chairman of the 1922 Committee that the process for electing a new leader should begin in the following week. I have kept Her Majesty the Queen fully informed of my intentions, and I will continue to serve as her Prime Minister until the process has concluded. It is, and will always remain, a matter of deep regret to me that I have not been able to deliver Brexit.”
The decision of Ms. May came after her meeting with Graham Brady, the Chairman of the Conservative Party’s Backbench Committee, on the 24th of May, in London.
According to sources, Theresa’s failure to deliver Brexit during her tenure as the President gave the leaders of the Coservative Party a reason to force her to resign.
According to sources, her failure to deliver Brexit as the President led the Lawmakers of the Conservative Party pressurised Theresa to resign, as they were frustrated with her.
Theresa is expected to submit her resignation. Though she will step down as the President of the Party, she will stay as a Caretaker Prime Minister until a new candidate is selected for the position.
According to sources, the Member of Parliament (MP) of the Party will vote for a new leader soon.
