The Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited, started direct supply of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19k vaccines to 14 states.
States like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal ordered COVAXIN at a cost of Rs. 400 per dose.
However, the vaccination doses for the private hospitals would be at Rs. 1,200 per doses. After the Central Government allowed direct supply of COVID-19 vaccine to the state governments, this is the first direct supply made by the COVAXIN manufacturer, Bharat Biotech.
Suchitra Ella, the Joint Managing Director and Co founder of the company on the 10th of May, took to Twitter and said, “Requests have been received from other states, & will be processed for distribution based on availability of stocks 24×7. (Sic.)”
In addition, for exports to other countries, Bharat Biotech’s COVAXIN has been priced at $15-$20 (Rs. 1,125-1,500.) Initially, the pricing of COVAXIN was at Rs. 600 for states. However, the company later reduced the amount to Rs. 400 per dose.
Ever since the launch of Covid vaccination programme in India, Bharat Biotech and the Serum Institute of India (SII) have been supplying their vaccines to the Centre at Rs.150 per dose. While Bharat Biotech is likely to continue the supplies to the Centre at the same price, SII is seeking to revise this to Rs. 400.
