Due to the shortage of vaccines in Telangana, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) decided to administer only the second dose of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

On the 7th of May, the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government announced to give two COVID-19 vaccinations to one who is scheduled to receive a second dose of vaccination. As of now, there are 11 lakh beneficiaries for the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine and the State Medical Department has only 3.74 lakh doses of vaccines. However, the State assured to provide doses to all, as Telangana is expecting 3 lakh doses of vaccines by the 15th of May.

The vaccination drive for beneficiaries of the second dose would begin from the 8th of May. The new arrangements would continue till the 12th of May. The news was confirmed by the Director of Public Health of Telangana Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao.

All persons eligible for a second dose could take doses at government vaccination centres by showing their certificate of partial vaccination.

As per COVID-19 vaccination guidelines issued by the Union Health Department, the eligibility period for taking the second dose is six weeks for Covishield and four weeks for COVAXIN.  

Meanwhile, the third phase of COVID-19 vaccination drive is likely to begin in June.
