K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 18th of May, announced an extension to the ongoing lockdown in the State.
In addition, the State Chief Minister also cancelled the scheduled Cabinet meeting of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government. The State Cabinet was scheduled to meet on the 20th of May to discuss the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19,) the imposed lockdown and other measures. The meeting would also have taken a decision regarding an extension to the imposed lockdown.
However, the State Government on Tuesday evening decided to extend the lockdown, in the wake of Wuhan virus cases and current situation. The Chief Minister held a telephonic discussion with the Cabinet ministers and following their recommendations, announced to extend the lockdown.
In addition, the decision to cancel the forthcoming meeting was taken due to the busy schedule of ministers who are monitoring the Wuhan virus situation in the State.
Later, the Chief Secretary of Telangana Somesh Kumar issued a Government Order (GO) regarding the extended lockdown till the 30th of May.
The State has been under a complete lockdown since the 12th of May. During the imposed lockdown, people are allowed to function and step outside only between 6:00 A.M., to 10:00 A.M. Activities like grocery shopping, markets, petrol pumps and others would be functional for 4 hours. Except medical emergencies and essential providers nothing is allowed to function during the imposed lockdown.
The Telangana Police are also on alert to make sure every individual in the State is following the issued guidelines during the lockdown.
