From today, the 21st of June, all citizens of India above 18 years old would be given a free vaccine against the deadly Wuhan Virus.
Initially, the Central Government was providing the free COVID-19 vaccines for people above 45 years old only. With this administering vaccine to people between 18 to 44 years was the responsibility of the respective state governments. However, due to constant shortage of vaccines and other issues, the Government of India decided to provide free vaccines to all the citizens of India, 18 years old and above.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the 7th of June and announced the programme of free vaccines to all individuals. He said, from the 21st of June, the Centre would provide free vaccines to states for all above 18 years.
Initially, 25 % work, that is the responsibility of vaccination of people between 18 to 44 years of old was given to states. However, from now on, the 25% work that was being done by states would be shouldered by the Centre, making it 75 % distribution by the Central Government. The remaining 25 % of vaccine distribution/administering would be by private hospitals across India.
With this, the Central Government aims to vaccinate all adults in the country against the Novel Coronavirus disease by the end of 2021.
