The Nationalist Congress Party spokesman and the Skill Development Minister of Maharashtra Nawab Malik has sought a high-level inquiry into how a young nephew of state leader of opposition Devendra Fadnavis got his second vaccine dose. Under existing rule, people below 45 years of age are not eligible for the jab, unless they’re healthcare or frontline workers. “Does he have comorbidities or is he a frontline healthcare worker? If he is not, then an offence should be registered against him,” said Malik.

Tanmay is the grandson of former MLA Shobha Fadnavis, who is the former state CM’s aunt. According to his friends, Tanmay is 23 and a resident of Shraddhanand Peth in city. He posted a photo on Instagram after taking the jab at the National Cancer Institute in Nagpur on Monday. After being trolled and questioned about his age on the social media, he deleted the photo.

“Tanmay is a distant relative. I do not know under what criteria he got inoculated against corona. If he is eligible then its fine, but if he is not then its completely improper. It is because of the criteria that my wife and daughter have not been vaccinated yet. Even though now that 18+ have been made eligible for vaccine, I have always maintained that everyone should follow the rules,” said Fadnavis.

Srivatsa, a Congressman from Karnataka, wanted to know if Fadnavis is “hoarding vaccines and giving it to his family members”. “Tanmay has committed a crime and must be immediately arrested,” he tweeted.

The Centre, on Monday, has paved the way for vaccination for everyone above 18 years of age from May 1. As reported by TOI over the last couple of days, several people above 45 years of age were unable to take their second shot due to vaccine shortage.
