India COVID-19 Cases Surge, Reports 20,000 Above Cases In One Day

Once again, India’s Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases are increasing. In the past 24 hours the single day cases recorded was above 20,000.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India recorded 24,882 fresh cases of COVID-19. The update was given on the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) at 8:00 A.M., on the 13th of March.

According to the released data, India recorded 24,882 new cases, 140 deaths and 19,957 recoveries in the past 24 hours. The surge recorded on Saturday is almost 7% higher than the previous day’s new cases toll. This is the fifth time in 2021, India recorded more than 20,000 cases.

With this, the total positive cases reported in India so far stand at 1,13,33,728. Of the total, India currently has 2,02,022 active cases, 1,09,73,260 recovered/discharged cases and 1,58,446 deceased.

Meanwhile, Indian Health Department administered COVID-19 vaccine to nearly 2,82,18,457 people across India. In the past 24 hours, 20,53,557 people were given doses of two India made COVID-19 vaccines. The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive started on the 16th of January. Approved by the Drug Control of India, citizens of India are receiving the Serum Institute of India manufactured Covishield and the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited, made COVAXIN. As of now, India is in the second phase of the vaccination drive and is administering doses to people above 65 years old people above 45 years with comorbidities.

In the second phase, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Health Minister, the Union Aviation Minister and other leaders took the doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Despite the ongoing drive, cases are on a rise, following which many Indian states announced partial lockdown. The Union Health Ministry also urged people to be cautious and follow all the guidelines of the COVID-19 like wearing masks and maintain social distancing.

The warnings and urge for precautions came at a time when a few states of India are likely to witness another wave of COVID-19 infection surge. Maharashtra, Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are some of the Indian regions with an issued alert.
