India Crosses Milestone, Administer COVID-19 First Dose To 50 % Eligible Population

India crossed a milestone after vaccinating 50 % of the eligible population with a single dose of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) doses.

Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, addressed the media on the 26th of August, confirming 50 % of the population of India have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. He took to his official Twitter handle and said, “India achieves unprecedented milestone!

5️⃣0️⃣% of the eligible population inoculated with the first dose of #COVID19 vaccine.

Let us fight Corona.”

In India, so far 61 crores people received their COVID-19 vaccine doses, including 67,87,305 doses administered in the past 24 hours. Of the total, 47.29 crore vaccines were given to adults, making it 50 % of the total adult population in India.

As per the 2020 mid year population count data, there are approximately 94 crores people of the age group of 18 and above.

The nationwide COVID-19 vaccine drive started from the 16th of January 2021 in a phased manner. In the first phase, the Central Government asked to vaccinate frontline workers, medical staff and other officials fighting the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

Later, in the second phase, senior citizens were allowed to get their COVID-19 doses and later in the third phase, the 1st of May, people above 18 years old were allowed to vaccinate people.

With this speed, the Central Government aims to vaccinate the first dose of anti COVID-19 vaccine by the end of December 2021.
