India’s COViD-19 Cases Rise With Highest Single Day Spike Of 35k Cases

The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 Cases in India is rising again. In the past 24 hours, the COVID-19 cases stood at 1,14,74,605 with 35,871 new cases. 

This is the 8th day, India reported more than 25,000 cases. Since January 2021, this is the highest single day spike for the Novel Coronavirus.

Concerned about the increasing cases and fearing a second wave across India, many state governments took strict measures. Similar to Maharashtra and Gujarat, the Madhya Pradesh Government also called for a partial lockdown in several regions.

In addition, the Rajasthan Government also decided not to conduct classes till 5th standard and no exams would be conducted for them. The Gujarat Government also suspended public transport, closed gyms, theatres, clubs and gardens.

In India, Maharashtra is said to be the worst affected state of all, accounting to 64 % of the total active COVID-19 cases. In the past 24 hours also, Maharashtra alone reported 23,179 fresh COVID-19 cases.

Besides Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab are the worst COVID-19 affected states.

On the 17th of March, nearly 17 states and union territories (UTs) reported the highest cases in 2021.

Tamil Nadu: 945

Chhattisgarh: 887

Madhya Pradesh: 832

Haryana: 555

Rajasthan: 313

West Bengal: 303

Uttar Pradesh: 261

Telangana: 247

Chandigarh: 201

Himachal Pradesh: 167

Jammu and Kashmir: 126

Uttarakhand: 110

Puducherry: 52

With this, India has reported 1,14,74,605 positive cases, of which 1,10,63,025 are recovered/discharged cases, 1,59,216 deceased cases and 2,52,364 are active cases. The data has been updated on the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)

Meanwhile, total vaccination done till 7:00 A.M., on the 18th of March stood at 3,71,43,255.

The vaccination drive which started on the 16th of January, is currently under the second phase in India.
