On the 24th of April, around 225 police officials tested positive for the deadly Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. The cases have been reported among the police officials of Rachakonda police station limits,
The news of all the police officials being COVID-19 positive was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police of Rachakonda limit Mahesh Bhagwat.
Mahesh Bhagwat asked the public to strictly follow the preventive measures to keep the virus at bay. He further said that vaccination has been completed for 95 % of police officials under Rachakonda commissionerate limits. In addition he said, “Over 40 check posts have been set up in Rachakonda and 200 curfew violation cases have been registered so far. Also, 16 cases have been registered on those not wearing masks at public places.”
The news of police officials being COVID-19 positive came at a time when Telangana is witnessing a second wave of the Novel Coronavirus. Every day nearly 5,000 new cases are being reported, taking the total active cases to approximately 58,000 cases. In addition, the Telangana recovery rate from COVID-19 also dropped to 85 % from the previous 95 %.
In the wake of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also imposed a night curfew. The curfew would be in action till the 30th of April.
The curfew was imposed to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection in the State.
