The citizens of Telangana could now lodge complaints against hospitals that are overcharging money for treatment of the Wuhan virus patients. Citizens can filed their complaint directly through WhatsApp.
On the 18th of May, Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, the Director of Public, Health and Family Welfare, said grievances/complaints regarding medical services and billing by private hospitals could be lodged with the concerned authorities through the WhatsApp number- 9154170960. The number has been launched specially for people to report hospitals taking excess money for the treatment. Dr. Rao also assured strict action against hospitals overcharging for COVID-19 treatment.
The decision to lodge complaints through WhatsApp was taken after several cases of overcharging at private hospitals were reported. The Telangana Government also warned the private hospitals treating the Wuhan virus patients not to take more money during billing.
According to Dr. Srinivasa Rao, so far, close to 26 cases have been registered through this WhatsApp number in less than 24 hours. Dr. Srinivasa Rao also urged people to take COVID-19 treatment at government hospitals free of cost. In addition, so far the Telangana Health Department issued show cause notices to 3 private hospitals, located at Secunderabad, Ongole and Basheerbagh and were asked to submit a written report. In addition, the license of one hospital situated at Hitech City, to treat COVID-19 patients has been cancelled due to overcharging for treatment.
Meanwhile, on the 18th of May, the Telangana Government extended the imposed lockdown till the 30th of May.
