In Hyderabad, the Department of Posts also started the registration for the Wuhan virus vaccination drive. The decision to allow the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination registration at post offices was taken to ensure everyone registers themselves for the drive.

The major agenda and focus is on people of rural areas, who should not be left out from the massive vaccination drive, being carried out in Telangana by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government. So far, 36 head post offices, 643 sub post offices and 10 branch post offices in Hyderabad are conducting the registration for the massive drive. The confirmation regarding the registration at post offices was given by K. Venkatarami Reddy, the Assistant Director of the Postmaster General Office, Hyderabad. He said, “In view of the problems being faced by a large number of people in rural areas in getting themselves registered for vaccination owing to lack of smartphones and connectivity issues, the Department of Posts has started assisting in registration of appointments for vaccination.”

According to sources, the State Government is planning to expand registration at other post offices across the State. In the next phase, another 800 branch post offices would be included, where people could register themselves for the vaccination. The individual needs to carry Aadhaar and mobile phone to enable the post office staff complete the process through one time password generated and sent to their mobile phones.

Meanwhile, the online registration for the COVID-19 vaccination would be done by the postal department staff at Co-WIN application. The application filing would be done by Branch Offices Common Service Centres (BO-CSC) through a mobile app at free of cost.

With this, the State Government could cover a huge population to register for the COVID-19 vaccination, including residents of rural areas without internet services.

Meanwhile, so far the Telangana Health Department administered COVID-19 vaccination doses to 59.10 lakh people in the State.
