The Telangana Health Department announced to vaccinate people above 18 years old from the 1st of July.

In regard to vaccinating the population between 18 years to 30 years old against the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19,) the Telangana Health Department organised 100 centres in Hyderabad. Until now, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government was catering COVID-19 vaccines to only people above 30 years old.

However, on the 30th of June, the K.Chandrashekar Rao led Government decided to vaccinate all the citizens of Telangana above 18 years old. After reviewing the stock of COVID-19 vaccines, the Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactured Covishield and the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited manufactured COVAXIN, the Health department decided to begin the vaccination drive from the 1st of July.

In order to vaccinate the youths, the State Medical department set up 100 Government COVID-19 vaccination centres (GCVCs) across the City. The Director of Public Health of Telangana G. Srinivasa Rao, said the first dose for the 18+ population would be administered at 100 GCVCs in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) region, 204 centres in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and 636 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in rural areas.

To take the first dose of vaccine against the deadly virus, the citizens could register themselves on the CoWin portal. Only those who are pre registered would be vaccinated at GCVCs in Urban areas and ULBs. However, in rural areas and PHCs, one could take the vaccine dose by just walking in and on spot registration.

Meanwhile, till date Telangana administered COVID-19 vaccine doses to nearly 1.89 lakh (1,89,403) people, of which 30,434 people are given both the doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
