Due to the rising number of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, the Telangana Health Department asked Kumbh Mela returnees to isolate themselves for 14 days. 

Recently, on the 17th of April, the holy Kumbh Mela concluded in Uttarakhand. The decision to urge people to isolate themselves as Kumbh Mela is said to be the hotspot for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19. Approximately 2,000 people who participated in the Kumbh Festival tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus. The event concluded early due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 17th of April, appealed that the Kumbh Mela should now be symbolic in the wake of the rising number of the Novel Coronavirus cases.

In addition, the State Medical Department also requested people to get their COVID-19 test done, if showing any symptoms of the infection. They can also call the State emergency number 104 healthcare number for assistance.

In response, Swami Avdheshanand replied, “We respect PM Modi’s appeal. Saving lives is sacred. I request people to not gather for the ritual bath in large numbers and follow all Covid protocols.”

After the conclusion of the Kumbh Mela, state and union territories (UT) governments imposed restrictions and mandatory self isolation for Kumbh returnees.

In addition to this, the Telangana Government also urged people to be cautious and isolate themselves.

As of now, with 6,206 new COVID-19 cases, Telangana reported more than 55,000 active cases.

The cumulative total of COVID-19 cases in Telangana surged 3.73 lakhs. The recovery rate of COVID-19 in Telangana also dropped to 85 % from the previous 90 %.
