A day ahead of the reopening of schools and colleges in Telangana, the State Government received a major drawback.

On the 31st of August, the Telangana High Court issued a stay order on the reopening of residential education Institutes.

The HC bench led by the Chief Justice Ms. Hima Kohli said, “They can run the classes, online, offline or in hybrid mode in tune with the facilities they have. As far as social welfare & tribal welfare residential schools that have attached hostels the state was asked to explain the SOPs it has in place. For now they cannot be reopened.”

In addition, for both the private and government schools, the HC cleared the Telangana Government and the State Education Department not to force any student to attend classes. The HC said, even schools should not be fined for not reopening schools to conduct offline classes. Despite the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government’s order to reopen schools, if any education Institute remains shut, they should not be penalised.

As per sources, recently Ms. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Education Minister of Telangana, said, attending offline classes would be mandatory for students. She said the State Education Department is making all the necessary arrangements abiding by the COVID-19 protocols. Sanitization, social distancing and mask wearing would be some of the mandatory rules of the COVID-19 appropriate behavior, which should be followed by everyone attending schools.

The HC during the court hearing said, “No student from any school private or government, KG to class 12, shall be compelled to attend physical classes from Sept 1 ”

It is to be noted, the Telangana Government led by Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, announced to resume offline classes for educational institutions in Telangana, from the 1st of September.

However, with the direction of the Telangana High, the reopening of schools is expected to be rescheduled.

The Telangana Government is yet to respond to the Telangana High Court’s orders.

Stay tuned for further updates.
