While regions of India like Delhi and Maharashtra are complaining of the shortage of Remdesivir, the Telangana Government has confirmed to have sufficient doses.
On the 21st of April, Eatala Rajender, the Health Minister of Telangana said, government hospitals in Telangana have sufficient doses of Remdesivir, an antiviral drug for critical patients of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
The statement of Mr. Eatala Rajender came a couple of days after the citizens of Telangana expressed disappointment over not getting the doses of Remdesivir. Many gathered outside Hetero Pharma in Moosapet. The place is the only retail market for the purchase of Ramdesivir drugs in the State. Six vials of Remdesivir produced by Hetero Healthcare Ltd., costs around Rs 20,940. The pharma retail store recently filled their stock of Remdesivir and is selling to people at Rs. 3,000 to 4,000 for COVID-19 patients in need.
However, Eatala Rajender during a press meet at Karimnagar district, refuted the news of the shortage of the drugs. He said the State Health Department and medical staff are working round the clock to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. He also said, in regard to this, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) even appointed an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) rank officer to review COVID-19 situation in Telangana.
When asked, if Telangana is also facing difficulties like shortage of oxygen Mr. Eatala Rajender said, “The Chief Minister is reviewing the oxygen supply in the state. We are taking all measures to provide vaccine to those above 45 years.”
The statement of Mr. Eatala Rajender came during an event of paddy procurement centre inauguration. The paddy procurement centre was launched in Tummanapalli of Karimnagar district.
TRS officials of Karimnagar districts and two to three senior leaders of the Party attended the launch event. During the event, the Telangana Government ensured COVID-19 protocols and followed all the guidelines like mask wearing, social distancing and sanitization.
