Telangana’s Urban Areas Witness Decline In COVID-19 Cases With Steep Surge In Rural Areas

With the imposed lockdown, the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases saw a fall in Telangana.   

In the past 24 hours, Telangana reported 3,043 new cases of the Wuhan virus with 21 deaths. In addition, the number of recoveries from the deadly Novel Coronavirus infection stands at 4,693 in the past 24 hours. This is the 6th day that Telangana reported daily cases below 3.5k.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Government led by K. Chandrashekar Rao, increased testing for COVID-19 in Telangana. Unlike before, now the State Medical Department is conducting more than 50,000 tests. According to the media health bulletin released by the State Government, the health department conducted 59,709 tests in 24 hours, taking the cumulative total to 1,45,67,606.

The bulletin also updated the total COVID-19 cases, active cases, recoveries and deaths in the State. As per the data, Telangana has 5,56,320 positive cases, of which 5,13,968 are recovered/discharged cases, 39,206 are active cases and 3,146 deceased cases. With this, the State has a 92.38 % recovery rate and 0.56 % fatality rate.

Despite the better situation and decrease in regular COVID-19 cases, the State Government is concerned about the rural areas. While urban areas witnessed better situations, rural areas like villages and small districts are being affected with a surge in cases. Of the total active cases, 50 % of the cases are from rural areas, worrying the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.) The second wave of the Wuhan virus is said to be impacting children and youth, covering rural villages and districts across the Country including Telangana.

According to the recent regular fever survey taken up by the Medical and Health Department in the villages, it is said that the Wuhan virus is spreading rapidly in rural areas. According to sources,the increase in rural areas have been observed in Vikarabad, Warangal Rural, Wanaparthy, Siddipet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Jagtial, Nagarkurnool, Mahbubnagar, Peddapalli, Mahbubabad and Suryapet districts.
