The Union Health Ministry appreciated the Telangana Government for its measures to control the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread.

On the 12th of May, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister, chaired a video conferencing with representatives of seven states. The meeting was to discuss the ongoing situation and preventive measures for COVID-19 or the Wuhan Virus. T. Harish Rao, the Finance Minister of Telangana, attended the meeting as the representative of Telangana.

During the meeting, Mr. Harsh Vardhan appreciated the Telangana Government as the State witnessed a slight dip in the daily cases. The hospital facilities and availability of beds, oxygen and Remdesivir injection including other medical needs are also better than any other states in Telangana. T. Harish Rao said, currently, Telangana has 53,775 beds, 20,738 oxygen beds and 11,274 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds. He also explained about the recently announced door to door survey. Several teams including municipal staff, two accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers and one auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) would conduct the survey. During the survey, the formed teams would identify people with the Wuhan Virus symptoms and deliver the medical kits through an e clinic.

The Telangana Minister said, “This programme is yielding positive results. So far, fever tests have been conducted in about 60 lakh houses and symptomatic patients have been kept under home isolation. They have been kept under observation for timely intervention in case of emergency.”

Recently, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also said Hyderabad to be the national medical hub for COVID-19, as many patients from different regions are being airlifted to Hyderabad for treatment. In regard to this, T. Harish Rao said, as Telangana State especially, Hyderabad had become a medical hub, there is a huge influx of Wuhan Virus patients from the neighbouring States like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Hyderabad for treatment in addition to the local patients in Telangana. Hence, the State would need additional supply of equipment and medical facilities for patients. The request was made as per the direction of K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana.

Considering all the reports and details of the COVID-19 situation in Telangana, Mr. Harsh Vardhan assured help. He said the Central Government would provide an increased quota of Wuhan Virus related supplies including oxygen, Remdesivir injections, vaccines, testing kits and ventilators required for the State. He also said the Central Government would extend full support to the State in order to combat the spread of the deadly Wuhan Virus.
