Union Minister Announces COVID-19 Vaccination For All Above 45 Years

On the 23rd of March, the Union Government announced to allow vaccination for people above 45 years of age.

Briefing the Union Cabinet’s decision, the Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the two India made Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccination would be now given to people above 45 years old in India.  The announced decision would be in effect from the 1st of April 2021.

The decision was taken in the wake of rising cases of COVID-19.  In the past 10 days, India reported close to 40,000 single day spike.  The active cases which were below 2.5 lakhs crossed  3.5 lakhs in India.

Meanwhile, the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive in India gave doses to 4.85 crore people.   With this announcement, Mr. Jaavdekar appealed to all eligible people to get themselves registered for vaccination.  In addition, the Union Minister also spoke about the rumoured lockdown in India.  He said the Centre has no plans to impose complete or partial lockdown to stop the spread of the pandemic.
