Aishwarya Rai’s “Sarbjit” shoot halted, Producer Arrested

Mumbai: The shooting of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer “Sarbjit” was halted when the team was shooting a sequence at Bendi Bazaar. It seems the sequence didn’t go well with the locals and they filed a complaint in the Police station.

The sequence is all about the Darshan Kumar’s character and is set in Pakistan. The scene is about the giving the speech with the message of peace and prosperity. It sparked a protest from some members of the gathering carrying placards with anti-India slogans in Urdu. With this, the locals raised objections claiming that it has hurt their National sentiments and filed a complaint.

The police arrested the executive producer, Zafar Mehdi, was put behind bars for over two hours. The regular shooting was haled for nearly four hours till the team requested the police officials to release Zafar Mehdi as they had valid permission to shoot for the film.

The ‘Sarbjit’ is a biographical drama and based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of terrorism and spying in Pakistan. Being directed by Omung Kumar, the movie also features Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha in major roles.
