Bollywood Director Mahesh Bhatt and his daughter Alia Bhatt received death threats on February 26. The Bhatts first neglected the call thinking that it was a prank call, but later the continued messages and calls created fear in them and a complaint was launched at the police station.

An unidentified caller demanded a ransom of Rs. 50 Lakhs to be deposited in a Lucknow based branch. The caller also threatened if Mahesh failed to do so he will kill both his daughter Alia Bhatt and wife Soni Razdan.
A tweet posted by the ANI stated that Bhatt had filed a complaint with the Juhu Police after the death threat. Also in another tweet, Mahesh Bhatt in his personal handle posted that the extortion attempt failed thanks to the Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh Police and that the threat was nipped in bud. After believing it to be a prank call, Bhatt lodged a FIR at the Juhu Police station in Mumbai when things turned serious. The caller claimed to be a gang leader and said that if Bhatt didn’t pay the ransom, he would fire bullets at his daughter Alia and wife Soni.

On Wednesday, Bhatt filed a case under IPC Section 387 (causing a person to fear death or grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion). This threat came after two years wherein a group of 13 plotted for killing Mahesh Bhatt in November 2014.
