A day after attending the Justin Bieber concert together, the power couple of Bollywood Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan divorced on Thursday. The couple had been married for 18 years and were granted divorce by the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai.
Malaika and Arbaaz have a 14 year old son, whom they accompanied to Bieber’s concert. Arhaan’s custody has been granted to Malaika by the court, while Arbaaz has visitation rights. Malaika and Arbaaz have been living separately for a year and filed for divorce by mutual consent.
Malaika, 43 and Arbaaz, 49 had a love marriage that was no less than a fairy tale. In a joint statement to a popular news daily, the couple said, “Yes, it’s true that we are separated. The truth is, we have taken a break, but that doesn’t mean people can presume, assume and speculate things of such malicious nature. We are taking out time to figure out our lives. We have maintained a dignified silence till now but it is causing us too much confusion and is disturbing for our families. To put all of the speculation to rest, we are giving out this statement.”
The former couple filed for a divorce in November 2016. Even after separation, Malaika was a part of many family celebrations in the Khan Khandaan. A close knit family, Arbaaz, Salman and Sohail have invited Malaika to various festivities and parties. She was also a part of a family vacation with the Khans to the Maldives.
After meeting in 1998 during a coffee advertisement shoot, the couple went ahead to feature in a music video. They hosted Power Couple reality show in 2015 and Malaika has been part of many of Arbaaz Khan’s movies.
