Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar decided to stand up against BJP spokesman G.V.L. Narasimha Rao. At an interview, Rao stated that all Indian film stars have, “very low IQ and very low general knowledge.”
The actor immediately reacted to the comment with a tweet that read, “How dare you, sir?”
On Times Now TV, Rao was being interviewed regarding the ongoing controversy with the Tamil film Mersal. The film has scenes criticising the GST and the Digital India Initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rao criticised the film and the makers in his interview and was quoted saying, “In any case, most of our film stars have very low IQ, very low general knowledge.”
Mersal released during Diwali and the controversy began when the Tamil Nadu BJP unit demanded some of the dialogues be removed. The BJP wanted the filmmakers to cut out scenes that mocked the GST and digital India.
Rao decided to react to Farhan’s tweet and said, “Farhan ji, Expressing an opinion is not a dare. Respect stars4work. Pl do take criticism in stride. No intolerance please!!”
While the BJP continued to criticize the film, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and DMK leader M.K. Stalin called the BJP out for trying to muzzle criticism of its policies.
