Actor-politician Vijay today began a landmark political journey, launching his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) first major statewide campaign from Trichy. Branded with the slogan “Unga Vijay, Naan Varen” (“Your Vijay, I am coming”) the tour is a key step ahead of Tamil Nadu’s 2026 Assembly polls.
The kickoff will cover Trichy, Ariyalur, and Perambalur, with organizers planning a 98-day outreach stretching across multiple districts.
Trichy city police have greenlit the Marakkadai rally, but only after TVK accepted more than 20 strict conditions—among them, a 25-minute address between 10:35 AM and 11:00 AM, a cap on accompanying vehicles, no processions, and responsibility for safety infrastructure like medical aid and traffic control.

Vijay used the pre-launch phase to criticize the ruling DMK government over these constraints, calling them “unprecedented” and questioning whether similar restrictions have been applied to other political leaders. Despite friction, TVK appears committed to compliance, viewing the launch as a test of democratic outreach rather than confrontation.
Political analysts say Trichy is a symbolic choice: historically a site of major Dravidian political decisions, the city launches often attract wide attention.
TVK’s strategy seems focused on building visibility, leveraging Vijay’s popularity and deploying a disciplined approach to public safety and order amid political rivalry.
As the tour unfolds, all eyes will be on its ability to convert fan enthusiasm into sustained political support, and whether the government’s conditions will remain a source of tension or be normalized as part of the political landscape.
