A month after the tragic crowd crush at a Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) rally that claimed 41 lives in Karur district, Vijay took a significant step towards outreach by personally meeting the bereaved families. The party organized the meeting at a resort near Chennai, booking 50 rooms to host around 30 affected families from Karur.

During the closed-door session, Vijay expressed his deep sorrow for the lives lost and conveyed condolences to those mourning. He reassured the families of continued support and the release of promised aid, which includes ₹20 lakh per family from his end, in addition to the state’s compensation.
The party and authorities carefully chose the venue and kept the meeting strictly private to maintain control and prevent any public unrest.
The Sept 27 tragedy, which happened during a TVK rally, raised serious questions about crowd management, venue suitability and the delay in the arrival of Vijay’s convoy. Investigations are ongoing, and the victims’ families are still seeking clarity and closure.
With the resort meeting, the TVK chief appears to be shifting from virtual outreach via video calls to a face-to-face engagement, demonstrating responsiveness to public expectations. But for many of the affected families, the pain remains raw and the promise of answers remains critical.
In conclusion, Vijay’s quiet meeting may not erase the pain of loss, but it signals a maturing phase in his political journey — one where empathy, accountability, and responsibility intersect. As the state continues to probe the incident, the real measure of leadership will lie in ensuring such a tragedy is never repeated.
