Mammootty has won the National Film Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the Malayalam film Bramayugam.
The veteran actor shared the award with Kartik Aaryan, who won in the same category for the Hindi film Chandu Champion. Both actors received the Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh.
In Bramayugam, Mammootty played a key role in the Malayalam film directed by Rahul Sadasivan. His National Film Award win recognises his performance in the 2024 film.
The 72nd National Film Awards honoured films certified in 2024. The winners were announced on July 18, 2026, while the awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026.
The award adds another major National Film Award honour to Mammootty’s long career in Indian cinema. His win also puts Bramayugam among the major Malayalam films recognised at this year’s awards.
