Mr. Raj Kundra, businessman and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband, was released from the Mumbai Jail, today, the 21st of September.

Mr. Raj Kundra was released a day after the Bombay High Court (HC) granted bail to the businessman in the pornographic film case. Magistrate S.B. Bhajipale of the Mumbai HC allowed the bail application of Mr. Raj Kundra with a bond of Rs. 50,000. He is also not allowed to leave the country as the case is pending with the Bombay High Court.

Meanwhile, nearly after two months, Mr. Raj Kundra was released from the Arthur Road Mumbai Jail around 11:30 A.M.

Along with Raj Kundra, his associate and the second accused in the case Mr. Ryan Thorpe was also granted bail.

It is to be noted, the Mumbai Police arrested Mr. Raj Kundra and his partner in crime Mr. Ryan Thorpe on the 19th of July. They were arrested in a case of streaming and producing porn content through a mobile application, Hotshot. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested him and charged him under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.) Since then, they were in police custody, as the Bombay High Court rejected their bail applications in the past. It is to be noted, the last hearing regarding the matter was held on the 27th of July. During the hearing, the Bombay High Court rejected the bail plea and extended the judicial custody.

Days after the last hearing, recently, on the 18th of September, Mr. Rai Kundra filed another bail plea. The bail application was granted by the Metropolitan Magistrate of the Bombay High Court on the 20th of September. The bail plea was filed by Prashant Patil, the advocate representing Mr. Raj Kundra. In the bail application, Mr. Prashant Patil said there is no evidence till date which establishes the app, ‘Hotshots’ used in the alleged porn films racket is an offence under law. In addition, Raj Kundra also denied the allegations of his involvement with the content posted on the alleged app, used for streaming obcence content.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai police has filed a 1,500 pages chargesheet, alleging Mr. Raj Kudra and Mr. Ryan Thorpe of using the Hotshot platform to stream porn movies.

The investigation in the matter is still underway.
