Chennai: On Monday, Kollywood actor Simbu appeared before the Coimbatore City Police and reportedly said that he had composed the most controversial “Beep” song when he was depressed due to love failure. Though the song was not released officially, it was uploaded online and the song faced severe criticism from various sections of the society for referring women in a vulgar manner. The actor was accompanied by his father T Rajendar. He was asked nearly 35 questions at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Central Sub Division.
A case was registered against Simbu and music composer Anirudh on December 14 at the Race Course Police from an office-bearer of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA). The duo was booked under the section 4 read with Section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women Act, 509 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
On January 11, Anirudh also appeared the Race Course Police and submitted that he had no role in composing the song.
