10 soldiers missing after avalanche hits Siachen army post

New Delhi: At least ten soldiers of Indian army went missing after a massive avalanche hit the army post in the Siachen glacier. The high-altitude army post is manned by the soldiers in the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield. On Wednesday morning, the avalanche hit the post, which is situated at 19000 feet in Northern Glacier in the region of Ladakh. Defence PRO at Udhampur-based Northern Command Col S D Goswami confirmed the news.

All the ten soldiers were trapped in the snow, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), are of the 19th battalion of Bihar regiment. The Air Force and Indian Army launched a rescue operation in the area.
