In Madhya Pradesh, a bus fell into the Bhagirathi river near Nalupani because of which 21 pilgrims died. This incident took place while they were returning from Gangotri shrine in the Himalayas.

Uttarkashi District Magistrate, Ashish Shrivastava said that the misfortune took place at around 6 P.M. and the bus fell 300 meters down the road into the river.

He even said that 20 bodies have been recovered from the spot and 7 pilgrims were injured. Out of seven pilgrims, one pilgrim died at the hospital.

Rescue efforts by the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the police personnel under the charge of senior officials are continuing in darkness.

There were around 29 pilgrims, mostly from Indore in the bus at the time of the accident, he added.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared an exgratia of Rs. 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.

Meantime, Sumitra Mahajan, Lok Sabha Speaker, expressed her grief over the tragedy and instructed for an immediate aid to be given to the victims.
