Amaravati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced plans to implement a 34% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in nominated posts, fulfilling a key election promise. During a review meeting on BC welfare, the CM emphasized launching new schemes and enacting special legislation for the safety and security of BCs.

A committee of Cabinet Ministers submitted a preliminary report on the proposed legislation. The Chief Minister directed officials to refine the proposal to avoid legal or technical issues. He also criticized the previous government for reducing BC quotas in local bodies from 34% to 24%, which resulted in the loss of 16,500 posts.

Naidu stressed the importance of addressing longstanding issues, including clearing pending diet bills worth ₹34.14 crore and expediting repairs for girls’ hostels. He also approved ₹5.4 crore for constructing four Kapu Bhavans and instructed officials to fast-track the completion of three BC buildings under construction.

The Chief Minister proposed setting up SR Sankaran Knowledge Centres statewide to enhance skills such as spoken English, legal awareness, and emotional intelligence among youth. He also called for creating cooperative finance societies for various communities, similar to the AP Brahmin Cooperative Finance Society.

Ensuring pension schemes reach only eligible beneficiaries was also prioritized. Ministers Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and Savitha participated in the review meeting.
