50 killed after Al Shabaab militants attack African Union base in Somalia

Somalia: Atleast 50 people were killed on Tuesday when the Al Shabaab militants attacked an African Union (AU) base in southern Somalia. Many African Union soldiers were killed in the incident, according to reports.

The gunmen entered the African Union Peacekeeping mission in Somalia after one of them rammed a car bomb into the base, according to al Qaeda-aligned militants. As many as 50 peacekeepers of Africa were killed in the attack on Janale base, which is 90 kilometeres south of the capital, Mogadishu.

Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, the spokesperson of Al Shabaab’s military operations said that the Janale base of AMISOM is under their control.

The residents of confirmed the attack but still an official confirmation is still awaited. None of the officials of AMISOM and government confirmed the news. One of the residents, said that he heard a huge explosion after the morning prayers and then he heard the heavy gunfire in the base of AMISOM.
