Finance Minister Arun Jaitley retaliated at Congress Leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for calling PM Modi ‘neech.’ On Thursday, Jaitley tweeted, “Mani Shankar Aiyar’s ‘Neech’ attack on Prime Minister – a deliberate casteist statement, a convenient apology, a strategic suspension. People should see through this game.”
The Finance Minister was furious as he stated Aiyar’s comments displayed the mindset that only one elite family should rule this country. He was quoted saying, “Mani Shankar Aiyar’s ‘Neech’ remark against the Prime Minister displays a mindset that only one elite family can be a ruler and the rest are only the ‘Neech’.”
On Thursday morning, Aiyar made a statement calling Modi a “neech aadmi” (vile man) who does “dirty politics.” Aiyar made these remarks after Modi accused the Congress of seeking votes in the name of B. R. Ambedkar.
Jaitley further argued Aiyar’s comment was not just a jab at the Prime Minister but also a challenge to the weaker and backward sections in India. In another tweet, the Finance Minister said, “The strength of India’s democracy will be displayed when a person of humble background politically defeats the dynasty and its representatives.”
The Congress suspended Aiyar from the primary membership of the party. The Congress also issued Aiyar a show cause notice for his derogatory remark. The former Congress Leader will have to appear in front of the Party’s Court and justify his comment.
