The devastating Assam floods have led to the death of more than 100 people. Reports have revealed 85% of Kaziranga National Park is submerged under water. The heavy rainfall has caused massive floods and landslides in 21 districts, disrupting the lives of 22 lakh people.

North East regions railway connectivity has been completely cut off due to the rainfall.

The floods began on the 10th of August and the situation does not seem to be getting any better. In June and July when the floods hit Assam it killed 84 people across the state.

The places affected the most are western Assam’s Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Bongaigaon and in upper Assam’s Kaliabor, Dhemaji and Dibrugarh.

Thousands are stranded and the Indian Army has been deployed to these areas to help the stranded people. Two lakh people are living in 480 relief camps set up around the state.

Railways spokesperson, Pranav Jyoti Sharma said, “With railway tracks near Dalkhola, Barsoi, Sudhani stations submerged and the main line connecting the Northeast with the rest of the country blocked, the danger level further went up.”

Sharma further reported, “As a result, a number of trains had to be stopped at various stations and some other trains had to be canceled or rescheduled/short-terminated. Some of the trains had to be brought back to their originating stations or other convenient stations.”
