Car falls off a flyover in Delhi, Two dead and Five Injured

On Monday morning, in Punjabi Bagh area in West Delhi, seven teenagers were traveling in a Honda City that skid and fell off the flyover. The accident instantly claimed two of the student’s life, injuring the rest.

The police reported that among the seven were two girls. The students were from Delhi Institute of Professional Studies. They were on their way for an exam at IP college in Narela. The accident took place at 8 A.M., the police reported the driver of the car was speeding, losing control of the vehicle leading to it toppling off the flyover.

The car broke the railing and fell upside down on the ground. Rajat, one of the 18-year-old students was supposedly driving the car. The police are investigating into the student behind the wheel, “We are yet to investigate if it was a minor who was driving the car. The investigation into the matter is on.”

A passerby who was on his way to work called the police to inform of the accident. The team rushed to the accident spot and pulled all the seven students from the car. The students were immediately rushed to the hospital. A senior officer reported, “Sanchit (18) and Ritu (18), were declared dead on arrival at the hospital while the other five are critical. They have been shifted to AIIMS and are in the ICU.”

A senior officer on the case informed it took the team nearly 15 minutes to get the students out of the car and also reported, “We even called the fire department to help us pull out the occupants as the car’s doors and the roof was completely crushed. One student died on the spot as he was crushed between the roof and his seat. Preliminary examination suggests that excessive blood loss and severe head injuries led to their death. Their bodies have been sent for a post-mortem and their families have been informed.”

They were on their way for an exam as they were also carrying their admit cards and books. They were to appear for their second-semester exam,” the officer added.

The senior officer also reported, “All the students first assembled at his (Rajat’s) residence in East Punjabi Bagh, Delhi, and then left together. It is still unclear how they lost control of the wheel. We have accessed footage from CCTV cameras installed in the area to see if they were speeding. It appears that the car was being driven at least at the speed of 100km per hour.”
