
Vijayawada: Vijayawada Railway DRM Narendra A. Patil announced that the central government has approved a Detailed Project Report for a new railway line connecting Amaravati to the capital region. The Railway Board and NITI Aayog have given the green light, and construction will begin soon. This new line, spanning 56 km from Errupalem to Nambur, is estimated to cost Rs. 2,047 crore. Additionally, a new railway station will be constructed in Amaravati.
The central government has also approved the final location survey for a railway line between Machilipatnam and Narsapur under the Vijayawada railway division. In the 2024-25 railway budget, Rs. 9,151 crore has been allocated to Andhra Pradesh, primarily for infrastructure development. DRM Patil shared these updates during a media briefing at his office.
A significant project, the Kotipalli-Narsapur railway line, will receive Rs. 300 crore this year, with a total cost of Rs. 2,120 crore. The Vijayawada-Guduru third line project has been allocated Rs. 500 crore, and the Kazipet-Vijayawada third line project will receive Rs. 310 crore. Three and four-line constructions have also been approved in the Vijayawada division.
Furthermore, 73 railway stations in Andhra Pradesh will be upgraded to Amrit Bharat stations, with 23 of these under the Vijayawada division. A budget of Rs. 600 crore has been sanctioned for this initiative. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has proposed a comprehensive development plan for Vijayawada Railway Station, estimated at Rs. 820 crore, and has submitted it to the Railway Board.
