Driver convicted in Uber rape case

New Delhi: The driver of Uber cab, Shiv Kumar Yadav, was convicted for raping a woman in the cab last year. On Tuesday, the High Court of Delhi convicted the accused. He was convicted for ‘endangering a woman’s life while raping her, abducting and criminally intimidating her.’ On October 23, it will hear the arguments on the quantum of sentence in the rape case.

The cab driver Shiv Kumar Yadav allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman executive on the night of December 5, 2014. The incident occurred when the woman hired the taxi to return home in Inderlok in North Delhi. He took her to an isolated location and then raped her, according to police.

When the victim had gone to Tis Hazari court premises to record her statement, she identified the accused for the first time. The trial began on January 15 in the case.
